The Legend of St. Valentine

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day this month we think that it is only fitting to give a little history behind the wondrous day. There are many tales to be told on the origin of the day so here is our favorite legend of how the celebration began.

It was said that during the 3rd century in Rome under Emperor Claudius II reign he outlawed marriage because he thought it to weaken soldiers and thought doing so it would bring him better ones.  St. Valentine a priest, who thought it to be ridiculous, would perform marriages between young lovers in secret to keep the idea of love alive. Claudius was enraged with anger of this discovery and demanded that St. Valentine be put to death.  Before Valentine was sent to prison he fell victim to love himself and during his confinement his mysterious lady visited him. With shaking hands, confused minds and broken hearts he slipped her a script that would resound throughout history. It is said to be signed,
 -from your Valentine.

When thinking about this being played out and as tragic the end might have been, we can’t help but feel that there is something quite romantic about it all. The idea of someone risking their life to give others the ability to love. Love is quite a powerful emotion and feeling that can stir a fire inside of us that we didn't even know was lit to begin with.
